Panel Guest - Simon Yoo

Executive Director, Korean Business Desk, EY

Simon is a 1.5 generation Korean in Australia, having immigrated to Australia in 1978.  Simon attained a Bachelor of Economics degree from Macquarie University in 1992, majoring in Accounting and Economics, and started his professional accounting career with KPMG in 1992 and built up broad experience in external audit, internal audit, risk management, and fraud investigations

During his 23 year career, Simon has spent 12 years working in Korea, where he was a Partner at EY Hanyoung Accounting Firm between 2004 and 2009 and a senior executive at Meritz Financial Group between 2009 and 2012, where he has served as the Senior Vice President, Head of Internal Audit of Meritz Insurance, and as the Group Chief Risk Officer.

Simon returned to Australia in 2013 and is currently an Executive Director, heading up Korean Business Desk at EY, where he services various Korean companies in Australia with audit, tax and other accounting/financial services, and is keen to assist Australian companies expanding into the Korean market.  

Since getting involved in the Korean business, Simon has taken a deep interest in the bilateral trade between Australia and Korea, and in particular in maximising the benefits and opportunities from the Korea-Australia Free Trade Agreement (“KAFTA”).
